A three month-long traffic shift along Interstate 55 near Osceola is scheduled to begin Monday, the Arkansas Department of Transportation has announced.
The affected portion of I-55 will be between Exits 44 and 53, ArDOT officials stated in a media release Tuesday.
The work is part of a job to resurface 7 miles of of roadway along I-55 in Mississippi County, transportation officials said.
All traffic has been using the south lanes of I-55 while work has been done on the north lanes. Beginning on Monday, all of the northbound traffic will shift onto the new pavement as they begin using the new outside lane along the north side, according to ArDOT.
Southbound traffic will continue to use the outside south lane of I-55, transportation officials said. As a result, motorists in both directions will use the outside lanes as crews continue to lay the new asphalt surface.
During the three months of work, motorists will be directed through the use of barrels, message boards and signs, according to ArDOT.
The upcoming traffic shift takes place as another major construction project is underway along I-55 in the eastern part of the state. Since Sunday, crews have been working to repair the surface along the bridge over the Mississippi River.
The two projects are about 45 miles apart.
The bridge closure is expected to last three weeks.
