FEMA Disaster Assistance application requirements

FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance crews are still on the ground assisting those affected by the recent severe weather. FEMA requires documentation to verify the residency of a disaster-damaged home. Homeowners should provide any of the following documents, including original deed or deed of trust to the property, a public statement from a public official, the address of the damaged residence, the period the residence was occupied, and the official who provided the verification. FEMA is extending the eligibility period from three months to a year. Survivors who have successfully applied for FEMA in two years of a previous disaster do not need to apply again. FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance crews are still on the ground assisting those affected by the recent severe weather.

Although Housing Assistance and Other Needs Assistance are available, FEMA requires documentation to verify the residency of a disaster-damaged home.

Here is a list of documentation that FEMA will accept.

Homeowners should provide any of the following to prove ownership of their home:

• The original deed or deed of trust to the property

• A public official's statement (From the police chief, mayor, or postmaster) including the applicant's name, the address of the disaster-damaged residence, the period the residence was occupied, and the name and telephone number of the official who provided the verification

Homeowners with the same address from a previous disaster only has to apply once and FEMA is extending the time period from the eligible documents from three months to a year.

Homeowners and renters must be able to provide proof of residency at the time of disaster with any of the following:

• Self-certification for a mobile home or travel trailer as a last resort

Survivors who have successfully applied for FEMA in two years of a previous disaster do not have to apply again.
