UAMS receives $3.18 million to help Little Rock students develop communication skills

In an attempt to bolster students' conflict-resolution and relationship-building skills, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has received a five-year, $3.18 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the medical school announced Monday. The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a five-year grant to help Little Rock students develop communication skills. The program, named the "Respect, Empowerment, Awareness, Life (REAL) Deal," will teach students about navigating relationships with friends, family, romantic partners, and coworkers. It will be offered through 16 workshops at the Accelerated Learning Center and the Hamilton Learning Academy, with two community centers offering the program. Little Rock School District Superintendent Jermall Wright praised the program's commitment to supporting the whole child.
